Sportsgate HOCKEY: March 23, 2019: The Kingston Jr's will be hoping for a little more Saturday and a little less Friday when they return to action next weekend to settle their Provincial Women's Hockey League quarter-final against the Mississauga Jr. Chiefs.
The Jr's will host at least two games next weekend after splitting the first two games of the best-of-five series on the road this weekend, posting a 3-0 Saturday victory on the heels of a 2-1 Friday loss. Game 3 of the series is slated for next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Invista Centre. On Saturday afternoon, the Ice Wolves netted a pair of power-play goals — one 4:29 into the first period by Rebecca Thompson and the other 7:11 into the second by Alexa Hoskin — to take a 2-0 lead in the first half of the game. Both Thompson's and Hoskin's goals were their second of the playoffs, and Hoskin leads the team with six points (2G, 4A). Darcie Lappan, with her first of the post-season, wrapped up the scoring with 2:09 left in the second period.Emma Gorski continued her exceptional playoff run, stopping 24 shots to gain her second shutout in three post-season appearances. She gave up just a single goal in her other start, leaving her goals-against average at 0.33 over three games, all wins.
