JRs Take Rangers
Sportsgate HOCKEY: November 23, 2018: Darcie Lappan continues to make up for lost time as she scored her sixth goal in 10 games to help the Kingston JR's edge the Waterloo K-W Rangers 2-1 in a Provincial Women's Hockey League game Friday night at the Invista Centre. The goal, which gave Lappan 10 points since returning from a knee injury suffered late last season, came three minutes into the third period on a power play and lifted the Ice Wolves into a 2-0 lead.
Tatum White had broken the scoreless tie 30 seconds into the first period. The Rangers, who outshot the Ice Wolves 13-11 in the third period and 25-23 in the game, narrowed the margin to a single goal with 1:44 remaining in the game on a Tatum Jones goal but could not get the equalizer. Alexa Gibson picked up the goaltending win, stopping 24 shots to improved her record to 7-1-0, lower her goals-against average to 1.37 and up her saves percentage to .947. She is tied for third in the league in wins, is seventh in GAA and fifth in SV%. The win bumped the Ice Wolves (11-1-3-1 for 26 points) into a tie for third place in league standings. They trail only the Nepean Jr. Wildcats, by four points, and the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins, by two points. Kingston has five games in hand on Nepean and one on Etobicoke.
